Auckland Unitec Site Redevelopment: Asbestos Removal and Facility Refurbishment

Project Overview

The Auckland Unitec site in Mount Albert featured a warehouse clad with asbestos Super 6 sheeting. This project involved the systematic removal and replacement of the asbestos roofing, ensuring minimal disruption and adherence to safety standards. Nikau was tasked with delivering both efficient and sustainable solutions tailored to meet the client’s specific needs and project timelines.

Nikau's Approach and Solutions

Nikau undertook a comprehensive approach to the project, focusing on both economic efficiency and sustainability. Key aspects of our work included:

  • Asbestos Removal: Utilizing a crane, we conducted Class B asbestos removal. Each section of the asbestos roofing was carefully detached and replaced with new, compliant roofing material.

  • Full Soft Strip of Internal Structure: The project involved a complete internal strip-out of the existing structure, preparing it for subsequent refurbishment.

  • Demolition Operations: Efficient demolition was carried out using small excavators and bobcats, tailored to the site’s requirements and constraints.

Our team worked closely with the client to ensure that all aspects of the project were executed to the highest standards, balancing cost-effectiveness with environmental responsibility.

Contractor Responsibilities

  • Class B Asbestos Removal with Crane: Safe and precise removal of asbestos cladding using crane operations.

  • Internal Strip-Out: Comprehensive removal of internal structures to facilitate refurbishment.

  • Demolition: Utilisation of small excavators and bobcats for targeted demolition work.

Nikau’s dedication to providing customized and sustainable solutions ensured the successful completion of the Auckland Unitec site redevelopment, reflecting our commitment to quality and client satisfaction.
