McClymonts Bridge, North Shore
The McClymonts Bridge, spanning Auckland's northern SHW1 motorway, was dismantled using a combination of cutting and craning techniques over a series of nights. To ensure the safety of site personnel and minimise disruption, lane closures and traffic diversions were implemented.
Project Overview:
- Initial Phase: Core drilling was performed on the dycore spans to facilitate the passage of lifting chains. This was followed by a coordinated effort between concrete cutting and crane teams, who worked overnight to cut the bridge deck beams into 25-30 tonne sections. These sections were then lifted onto transport vehicles for transfer to our reprocessing and recycling facility. During the day, additional teams focused on dismantling the piles and abutments.
Contractor Responsibilities:
- Saw Cutting: Precision saw cutting of all bridge deck slabs for removal.
- Deconstruction: Utilisation of two 250-tonne mobile cranes for efficient dismantling.
- Transport and Recycling: Transport of concrete sections to our Meremere facility for crushing and recycling.
This project highlights our commitment to safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility in infrastructure deconstruction.
