Park Estate Bridge

It was all action overnight on Saturday 21st May 2022 when the old Park Estate Bridge was successfully demolished during a planned 14-hour closure of SH1 between Papakura and Drury, clearing the way for construction to begin on the new northern half of the replacement bridge as part of Waka Kotahi’s Papakura to Drury project.  The job went to plan with clinical precision following months of miticulous planning, preparation, and the motorway was back open around 7am on Sunday almost two hours ahead of schedule.

Nikau ulitised 5 x 50t excavators which are all late model, equipped with heavy duty rockbreakers and crusher attachments, heavy duty truck with demolition bins and a team of 15 personnel Nikau staff.

The extended overnight demolition saved 20 full 14 hour nights of concrete-sawing to take the bridge down in pieces.  This type of planned demolition on a mototrway has not been done before in New Zealand.
