Fonterra Te Awamutu Processing Facility Deconstruction
Project Overview:
Nikau was contracted by Fonterra for two significant deconstruction projects at their Te Awamutu processing facility. Our team was tasked with dismantling outdated equipment and infrastructure, including boilers and other redundant plant machinery. The project demanded the application of advanced gas cutting and lifting techniques, utilising Nikau's own fleet of mobile cranes with capacities of 300 tonnes, 250 tonnes, and 90 tonnes.
Project Challenges:
The deconstruction work was performed within a "live" operational site, presenting substantial challenges. The confined working space required meticulous planning and coordination. To manage these constraints effectively, Nikau undertook the transport of all equipment across the road for further downsizing, ensuring that all components were safely and efficiently loaded onto our transport units for removal.
Contractor Responsibilities:
- Deconstruction of Bag House and Associated Assets: Efficiently dismantled the bag house and other related equipment with precision.
- Deconstruction of Redundant HRB Assets: Undertook the systematic removal of obsolete Heat Recovery Boilers (HRBs).
- Onsite Craning Operations: Conducted all craning activities using Nikau's own equipment to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Asset Transportation: Managed the transportation of heavy assets off-site for subsequent recycling processes.
- Metal Recycling: Recycled all ferrous and non-ferrous metals, preparing them for resale and ensuring environmental compliance.
This project underscores Nikau's expertise in handling complex deconstruction tasks within operational facilities, while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
